Welcome to Georges Wood - an area of woodland in the heart of Suffolk, England in memory of George Fagg who died on Good Friday 2003, aged 27.

This blog is to record and share with George's family and friends the planting of the wood, which began in Spring 2011, and its ongoing development.........

First Blog from Georges Wood

Hi everyone and welcome to the first Georges Wood blog!

We thought we’d start this blog by sharing with you some aerial photos showing the location and area that the wood will cover.  We have also marked the planting site of the 27 silver birches to give you an indication of just how big the eventual woodland will be and to show how this will be an ongoing project.

The big trees you can see are not the ones we have just planted!  They are existing Poplars and Alders which run North East to South West, marking the course of an old stream.  Then, there are existing Poplars, Alders and Willows West to East along the main river which runs along the southern boundary of the site.

The old stream was diverted to a tributary that now runs in a straight line from North to South and marks the eastern boundary. The western boundary is a ditch beside which there is a public footpath running North to South.

The northern boundary is a ditch with existing Willow trees bordering what is locally known as the ‘Bull Field’ or ‘Town Meadow’.

South of the wood is our meadow, garden and then our house.

In the next blogs, we will be sharing with you photos from the mammoth five day tree planting session and photos of the Spring wildflowers in the woodland.  So........... stay tuned!  And please feel free to leave any comments and thoughts on the blog.

Thank you, all, once again, and hope you will continue to share in the progress of Georges Wood!
